GlobAlpine

Ecological knowledge, sustainable actions for alpine regions worldwide

Alpine regions cover a mere 3% of the continental Earth. Yet they contribute widely to its biodiversity and provide a wide range of ecosystem services that benefit millions. Most are highly threatened by climate and land-use change, with scenarios projecting up to 8ºC by 2100 and important ecological and socio-economic impacts.

The GlobAlpine initiative aims, through research and management projects, to provide new ecological data and perspectives in alpine regions. Current projects include studing alpine phytogeography, primary successions following glacier retreat and socio-ecological mapping and threat assessment.
